A service for HR professionals, insurers, solicitors, and anyone going back to work and needing vocational rehabilitation after a personal injury
“We are extremely grateful for all you did for us and I can't thank you enough for
giving my husband his self esteem back. With all the encouragement you gave him he
started to believe in himself again.”
Lorry driver – physically recovered from injuries to legs caused by fork-lift truck, but psychological effects meant he could not face going into a loading bay again. He tried a programme of desensitisation with a psychologist, gradually increasing exposure to loading bay – it did not work. We then helped him set up as a self employed courier driver with a small van.
City Banker – traumatic brain injury following road traffic accident led to a personality change which prevented him doing previous job. Retention explored with employer in a different role – it might have worked out, but he felt his employer was not being supportive, and he resigned. He re-trained as a chef, which had been his lifelong passion outside of work
Financial services clerk – she was taking increasing time off with symptoms of upper limb disorder/repetitive strain injury. Our solution was made up of exchanging some of her duties with other staff in the office, posture was improved by changes to her work station and providing a better design of chair, and voice recognition software reduced the number of keystrokes.
Telecoms engineer – degenerative condition meant he could no longer climb poles or crawl into small spaces. Solution = allocated jobs which did not require climbing or crawling. Others on team took his share of those jobs, and minor changes made to bonus arrangements to ensure none of the team lost out financially.
A motor mechanic required sedentary work following injuries to his legs at work. He went on a 1-year university access course, which assessed him as capable of completing a degree course. We researched degree courses and identified one (air freight logistics and shipping) with a good level of job openings on completion, a high level of potential earnings, and helped him secure a place at a university which had a 90% + track record of graduate job entry from this course
Construction worker sustained crush injuries in site accident, which ruled out any future physical work, and left him with permanent, but not severe, back and neck pain. Our psychometric testing revealed a low level of literacy, insufficient for him to re-train in non-manual work. We have arranged for weekly home literacy tuition by a local teacher, and we identified a number of alternative work options to pursue once his reading and writing is sufficiently improved.
Following a workplace injury, this man’s claim for compensation was particularly lengthy, during which he remained unable to climb the stairs at his home or obtain adequate pain relief. We engaged the services of an occupational therapist and a stairlift company to advise on home improvements. We also engaged a physiotherapist and a consultant in pain medicine, to complement his NHS treatment.
Human Resources manager – an illness had led to poor motor control of hands and weakness in legs. We assisted her return to work with an office at her home, taxis to meetings, recording equipment for interviews and software to convert the audio recordings to text to help write reports and notes of meetings. Equipment and taxis were funded by the government Access to Work programme.
